Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva (born 2 September 1989, in Pato Branco, ParanÃ¡), better known as Alexandre Pato, is a Brazilian striker currently playing for Italian Serie A club Milan. The nickname \'Pato\' is in honour of his place of birth but has led to commentators calling him \'The Duck\' following the English translation. David Beckham has stated in an interview after joining Milan recently that Pato will definitely be one of the best players in years to come.

Alexandre Pato Goal

7th June 2007, Beira-Rio Stadium, in Porto Alegre Brazil. Sporting Club Internacional completed the second leg of their triple crown by beating Pachucca 4-0 in the final of the Recoba Scudamericana. In fairness it was a poor showing by Pachucca and when the third goal was scored, it was summed up by a fan that was heard saying “Oh great, even a duck can score against us!” (In Portugese). Of course this duck was not just your average Mallard, it was in fact Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva, better known as Alexandre Pato. The name comes from Pato Blanco where he grew up, which translates into White Duck in English. After scoring the third and setting up the first two goals Pato was on top of the world. It was the game that changed him from being a wonderkid with potential, to a superstar at the age of 17, and a legend in Brazilian league football.

Alexandre Pato Heart

winger Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi are the front-runners to win this year’s Golden Ball, awarded by France Football magazine to Europe’s top player.

Ronaldo finished runner-up to AC Milan midfielder Kaka last year, while Messi was third. Kaka was again among the 30 nominees named on Tuesday, but does not believe he will win.

“I am realistic. This one won’t be for me. It’s a shame, but it’s logical,” Kaka said. “AC Milan did not have a good season.”

Kaka is tipping United’s winger to take the top prize.

“My favourite is Cristiano Ronaldo,” Kaka said. “He won two major titles with Manchester, and he scored a lot of goals.”

The 23-year-old Portugal winger scored 42 goals in all competitions to help United win the Premier League title and the Champions League.

Messi, 21, was also in sparkling form for Barca, scoring several breathtaking individual goals, and he also helped Argentina defeat Nigeria 1-0 to win Olympic gold in Beijing in August.

Antonio Cassano recently joined Milan after falling out with management at Sampdoria. The striker who has not been a regular starter commented on his new team mate Pato.

“Pato is the strongest of all, I told him this,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport. “Only one player is greater than him, Messi. Both would complement each other and it would be exceptional to see them in the same team.”

It would be great to have Messi at Milan but with his immense buy-out clause, I can’t see that happening.

He started playing indoor football in his hometown at the age of three. Soon, his ability became known all around the south Brazilian state of Paraná for being a skillful and talented goal scorer and, after being praised by many of his managers, the teenager went to Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, to try out for Grêmio. He was turned away by Grêmio, the club whom he had supported since a boy – but local rivals Internacional convinced him to play for them. Despite the two clubs being bitter enemies, Pato’s parents convinced their youngster to switch his allegiance.
Pato said in an interview with the Brazilian television program, Esporte Espetacular that at age 11, he broke his arm and while examining the injuries, doctors found a tumour in the arm and feared the arm needed to be amputated. A successful operation removed the tumour.
