Samir Nasri and Bale eye PFA double




Gareth Bale Tottenham Hotspur side and Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri have both been nominated for the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. "


The ATP said Friday that the duo was one of seven candidates in the Premier League for each of its annual awards. Andy Gray (1977) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2007) are the only players to win both awards already in the same year.


However, the couple is likely to face stiff competition in both categories of the contest is generally perceived as wide.


Bale Spurs team-mate Rafael van der Vaart is also competing for the award after an impressive first season in England helped the Spurs to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League and stay in the race for fourth place in the Premier League.


Manchester City, striker Carlos Tevez is not to be nominated for Player of the Year after scoring 19 goals this season and joins Blackpool Charlie Adam, who was known for his influential role in Blackpool in his first season in the top flight.


Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic is the name of getting his team to the top of the Premier League in his first season as captain and midfielder Scott Parker to West Ham, who has just returned to the fold in England, made the performance list inspiration in the fight to avoid relegation.


England and Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, star of Jack Wilshere Arsenal, Everton and Manchester United Nani pair Seamus Coleman and Javier Hernandez are the other contenders for the Young Player gong.


Last year, Wayne Rooney, who was nominated in two categories, won the player of the year, while James Milner was the young player of the year.


PFA, Gordon Taylor, chief executive, believes this year's list are a reflection of an exciting season in which all candidates were very close.


Taylor said: "It is certainly very competitive no favorites in circulation, so it will be very interesting to see who are the favorites of people think ..


"Last year, Wayne Rooney has had an exceptional season. This year, there are some very good candidates and it's nice to see the youth players in there as well. That's encouraging.''
